Blog 2.0

G'day!

I've decided to try my hand at Blogging again since its a fun way to keep in touch with friends and family and share a bit about our life here, there and everywhere. Since my 2008 'Kim's Parisian Adventure' blog days, my life (rather, our life) has changed dramatically and I wouldn't have it any other way. As most of you know, I completed two years of teaching in Alief ISD located in West Houston through Teach for America. Those two years were a roller coaster of experiences and emotions but overall I have wonderful memories of my students, colleagues and fellow corps members and look back on that time fondly. Two weeks later, Sam and I got married in College Station and had a fantastic celebration with family and friends. It was truly a wonderful day and the start of an amazing new journey together. After our fantastic honeymoon in Greece (Santorini is simply incredible), I began a Masters in Public Administration program through Northeastern University and taught PreK part-time at a nonprofit charter school in Houston's third ward.

Fast forwarding a bit, Sam and I moved to Gladstone, QLD Australia in April with his company. We are more or less all settled in now and are really enjoying Auzzieland. Sam loves his job and we have a fantastic community of co-workers and friends here. I am now over half way through with my Masters program and am currently finishing up the second summer session. So far, we've been able to travel to Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Heron Island, which are all amazing in their own right. We visited Brisbane and the Gold Coast with a group of friends and went to two rugby (or 'footy') games, the AFL Suns and NRL Broncos, and went to Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo. I absolutely loved Brisbane and enjoyed the restaurants, shopping, markets, etc. Though we weren't there for too long, the Gold Coast seemed like a really fun beach town. We will have to go back in the summer time (Aussie summer that is...Nov, Dec, Jan).  Sam and I went to Heron Island to celebrate our one year anniversary, which was wonderful. The snorkeling there was incredible (though to be honest, I was FREEZING-even in a wetsuit) and the island is picturesque.

I can't believe we've been here for almost 3 months now...time flies. We are headed back to the Lone Star state next week for Jamie and Jeff's wedding. We are really looking forward it and can't wait to spend time with family and friends. We will be in the States for a whirlwind 10 days complete with time in Dallas, Austin and College Station. Bring on the margaritas, Mexican food, BBQ, Starbucks, Bikram yoga, tubing and Sonic drinks! :) We are planning a river floating/Gristmill dinner trip on Tuesday, August 2nd-come one, come all! It should be a great time.

Well, thats about it for now but I'll do my best to update every now and again. Take care everyone!

Cheers,
Kim
